Rain...rain please come... :]

Heavy rain pours through Manila and Mindanao these days…but still no rain here in our place- a small island in the middle of the Philippines. The rain is so relentless that in Mindanao there are already flashfloods and floods up to the waist, some even up to the elbows…while in Baguio- north of Manila, there are already landslides. Many vehicles were stuck and people have to walk in the flood and push them, some people were also buried in the ground but luckily they were saved...I just hope it wold start raining here so it wouldn't be so hot- it would be nice if all the tropical countries would experience rain now since I've heard that they are experiencing even hotter temperatures than in the Philippines...So rain, please come...

Can't stand the heat

I would just like to blog about how hot it is today… it might not be as hot compared to Africa, but still- we aren’t really used to this kind of heat…we haven’t even reached 87 F in our part of the country before... but now the temperature is at 90-97 F. The El Niño is at its worse…Some plants are dying in our garden even if it’s being watered everyday, …even taking a bath doesn’t help in relieving oursleves from the heat. It’s dangerous to stay under the heat of the sun too long now, because we might get skin cancer or have a heat stroke which is very deadly. The farms in the province are dried up, too. I really hope this El Niño ends soon…because of this, the electricity bills are going high and there is a blackout sometimes… maybe this is what they call climate change, or maybe I’m just imagining things…but it has never been this hot and dry before and I didn’t even notice that there was an El Niño at times... but now it's widely felt by everyone and it affects our economy.

ehem..what is El Nino? [taken from http://www.thefreedictionary.com/El+Nino]
A warming of the surface water of the eastern and central Pacific Ocean, occurring every 4 to 12 years and causing unusual global weather patterns. It occurs when the trade winds that usually push warm surface water westward weaken, allowing the warm water to pool as far eastward as the western coast of South America. When this happens, the typical pattern of coastal upwelling that carries nutrients from the cold depths to the ocean surface is disrupted, and fish and plankton die off in large numbers. El Niño warming is associated with the atmospheric phenomenon known as the southern oscillation, and their combined effect brings heavy rain to western South American and drought to eastern Australia and Indonesia [which is near the Philippines :D].

A cure to the summer heat

It was a boring and hot Wednesday afternoon...so I decided to watch a romantic movie entitled "Bright Star. " It was a true story set in London (1818), about the relationship between John Keats an English poet and the girl next door Fanny Brawne who has an eye for fashion- she even makes her own clothes. At first they were at odds, but gradually they came to like each other and even fell in love. Surprisingly, I enjoyed the movie because I found their love for each other to be pure and honest. But even true love cannot prevent the tragedy that was to befall on the young lovers...This movie made me realize that love does last amidst the loss of the person whom you care most ; because you'll always have the sweet memories. This movie is absolutely inspiring-- this reminds me that it is better to be in love and to love your love than to never have loved at all. I also reminisced my innocence before, and my first love... This movie definitely completed my day...
quotes: poetry soothes and emboldens the soul to accept mystery...forever panting and forever young
I would also like to recommend reading John Keats' letters to Fanny...here in : http://books.google.ca/books?id=h14LAAAAIAAJ&printsec=titlepage#PP%20A3,M1
